Carfree USA is fascinated by the discussion going on between women in our community.
The conversation has two very distinct arguments.
Biker Chicks of West Chester argues... "all those Bike Chic websites, do us all a favor and show some real women exercising."
In response, Change Your Life, Ride a Bike responds "I do not feel exploited, I am not objectifying myself and I am fully aware that I am the equal of any person out there."
Where do you stand on this issue?

STATEMENT OF THE HONORABLE RAY LAHOOD
SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION
BEFORE THE COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT AND PUBLIC WORKS
U.S. SENATE HEARING ON CLEAN ENERGY JOBS AND AMERICAN POWER ACT OF 2009
OCTOBER 27, 2009
DOT, HUD, and EPA are working together to support the building of more livable neighborhoods with "complete" streets that increase safety and mobility for all users by giving Americans –whether they live in urban, suburban or rural communities--the choice of walking, biking, or riding transit instead of driving motor vehicles. If the presence of these alternatives promotes less driving, then that will reduce road congestion, reduce pollutants and greenhouse gases, and use land more efficiently.

The basic logic behind car polishing and waxing is to provide the exterior of the car, a protective covering. However, most of us will refuse to give in to this reasoning because for us car polishing is a means of giving our car a cool, tidied-up, glossy look. Cars definitely repay routine car care, scheduled cleaning, waxing and polishing in the form of continued comfortable hassle-free services.
If you are thinking in terms of accomplishing the car polishing job on your own, do not expect the excellence of a professional car detailer. However, abiding the following car polishing tips will give your car a stunning look and keep the common problems such as rusting and corrosion at bay. This will definitely save a lot of unnecessary expenses and promise longevity.
Getting down to the real polishing business, the first step to follow will be to give the car a thorough wash. Some car washing soap, some soft towels and high-pressure water-sprinklers or hoses are all that you require for this job. Bathe the car; follow this up with lathering the car-body with a wet towel. Start with the roof and move downwards, cleaning and rinsing one side at a time. Once you are done, use a high-pressure jet to dislodge every bit of dirt and debris stuck fast to the vehicle's exterior and then wipe the car-body dry, paying extra attention to the metallic fittings and parts.
The car headlights need special care as lens clouding (resulting from the impact of UV rays, dust and dirt) limits the amount of light, reducing visibility. This can and will lead to a reduction in night time driving safety as per the Institute of Highway Traffic and Safety. There is now a patented headlight cleaning and repair system that will restore your lenses to like new and at great savings over replacement lenses (please see the link below for more info on this headlight cleaning and repair system) .
Do not forget the windows, the wheels and tires. Clean the windows using some window cleaner. Water and a soft towel should do for the wheels; you can use some spray-on tire shine on the tires to retain the new look and give them a protective covering. Using surface protecting products on other areas will keep the car in a great condition.
Now going ahead with the real car polishing job, you will need some car polish or wax and some soft towels (like diapers or cheesecloth). Before you start, read the instructions on the label for application direction. Apply the polish with a circular motion, allowing it to dry. By the time you cover the entire surface of the car, the wax will have done its job. It is time now that you follow it up with buffing up, removing extra wax. Your car should, by now, look all spruced-up – spotlessly clean and glistening, as you saw it at the car dealer's showroom, the first-day.
Some additional tips for car polishing are as follows:
Take care never to wash your car in direct sunlight or while the motor is still hot
Never use harsh, abrasive cleansing or waxing agents, as they are most likely to do harm rather than good to your car.
Always wash your car polishing stuff with fabric-softener.
Remember, your car needs gentle care! So, make your car polishing ritual a perfectly gentle program.

After the meeting between President George Bush and the CEOs of the Big Three, the general public commended the dedication of the parties to make the United States' energy quite dependent.
While there are flex fuel cars in production which can run on alternative fuels, Business Week reported that the promise of these vehicles is not what they seem to be. This reaction comes after the President held the energy meeting with the Big Three and did not invite Toyota to the party.
Business Week reported that there is a dirty secret behind the production of flex-fuel vehicles. Government policies allow car manufacturers to manufacture gas guzzlers as long as they produce flex-fuel vehicles. And in reality, majority of flex fuel vehicles already on the country's roads are far fro being clean.
It is also reported that the Big Three produced thousands of units of flex fuel vehicles to increase their CAFE average since flex fuel cars are given very high gas mileage ratings. These flex fuel cars are impractical since most consumers have no access to alternative fuels according to Business Week. In fact, a study reveals that only one percent of flex fuel vehicles are actually using alternative fuel like E85 while for the rest of the lot, 99 percent of them are still running on petroleum gasoline.
This secret has enraged environmental watchdogs like the Sierra Club. Dan Becker, the director for Global Warming Program of the club, calls the production of flex-fuel vehicles and the hype that comes with it as a "total scam". "The automakers are trying to shield themselves from having to make more efficient vehicles. They’re avoiding the path to cutting oil dependence, curbing global warming, saving consumers' money, and ultimately saving Detroit from competitors like Toyota," says Becker.
The reaction comes after the President met Rick Wagoner for General Motors, Alan Mulally for Ford, and Tom LaSorda for Chrysler to talk about energy policy. It can be remembered that the absence of Toyota in the meeting has received criticism since Toyota is in a position to provide the administration with insightful information in the production of vehicles that will support the government's goal to reduce energy dependency on oil producing countries.
Some of the vehicles presented to the President after the said meeting are flex-fuel vehicles from the Big Three's lineup. A General Motors model which runs on ethanol is one of the vehicles presented to President Bush as well as a plug-in hybrid from Ford and a DaimlerChrysler Jeep running on biodiesel. All these vehicles are designed to save fuel and reduce emission with the use of advance mechanical and automotive electrical components. If the government makes a step towards the expansion of the alternative fuel industry, these vehicles will surely be used to reach the administration's "Twenty in Ten" goal.
